What’s Happening Around the World in 1865?
Through history, we are released from the present and able to take a magic carpet through the centuries to meet great leaders and vicariously experience their struggles and successes. Let’s look at the mid-1800s . . . from the great rule of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in England to the travels of Dr. Livingstone through the jungles as Africa, and on to the mysterious Japanese empire that has never let any other people on its islands as dramatic changes are taking place. While explorers share their adventures with kings and queens, those same kings and queens are consequently seeking to take over the new lands and, as a result, cultures mix, clash, and negotiate. New ideas mix with old ideas and spark revolutions all around the world. It is a recipe for an exciting period in history. This class lays the foundation for the modern developments in world history that have led us to the world we live in today.
