What Information and Which Opinions Can I Trust?

$25.00Price

We are bombarded with communications from people trying to get us to do something. Kids are often vulnerable to persuasion by manipulative peers or advertisers. Currently, U.S. voters are overwhelmed with messages about candidates and issues. Who creates these messages, and what do they want me to do? Media literacy is about learning how messages are created in the media and analyzing the messages directed at you by others. Participants in this club will have opportunities to examine advertising, television programs, motion pictures, popular music, print publications, social media, and other online postings and to share their findings with the class. Those thinking kids who have created media will be invited to share their creations as well. Media literacy is an expression of critical thinking skills that helps us know if messages are truthful, consistent with our value system, and worthy of us to act on them.
