Rotten Rome, Blue Barbarians, Beowulf the Brave, and Justinian the Just

$42.00Price

Imagine you had a magic carpet and it could take you back hundreds of years. Now, imagine flying beyond the time of knights and ladies, into the time of Rome. If your carpet happens to take you over the Mediterranean Sea, all the land you will see around it has been conquered by the Romans and, if you fly all day, all the land you see will be part of this huge empire—the Roman Empire. If you happen to swoop down and see a piece of land that looks like a boot sticking out into some water, you are probably seeing Italy. And right in the middle of Italy is Rome, the center of the Roman Empire’s government. People are shouting, “Make way for the emperor!” If your magic carpet takes you hundreds of years forward from that time, you will see that the Romans found they couldn’t control all those lands and the people living there. What happened? In this class, you will learn all about the many groups that fought for freedom from Rome, including the Celts who painted their bodies blue and used animal fat to make their hair spiky. You will also learn about ancient Britain and India, where monks wrote out the first books (with lots of pictures!), people told stories about ancient heroes and hairy monsters, and Santa Claus came to be.
