Making Friends & Influencing People (8 weeks)

"Success in dealing with people depends on a sympathetic grasp of the other person’s viewpoint." —David Carnegie

Soft skills are essential for succeeding in life. Even the smartest kid in the world is not going to get the opportunity to climb the ladder to that coveted research position or job if they have not developed key character traits and communication skills. As we read and discuss Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People, we will learn to better understand people, become a more likable person, improve relationships, win others over, and influence behavior through leadership.

Evolution of a Product: Third World Studies (8 weeks)

“Understanding languages and other cultures builds bridges. It is the fastest way to bring the world closer together and to Truth. Through understanding, people will be able to see their similarities before differences.” —Suzy Kassem

When we shop, do we think about where a product comes from? Where was it produced? In a factory in Thailand, China, or Malaysia? And how do the people in that country live? How much money do they survive on, what do they eat, and what are their educational opportunities? Truly, our eyes will be opened and our understanding deepened for other cultures as we delve into the evolution of products we find at our local stores. We may carry it home, but it has probably already traveled halfway around the world. Let’s trace its evolution together!

What's Going On in Your Head: Psychology (8 weeks)

“When the mind is thinking, it is talking to itself.” —Plato

Psychology studies the base on which people function: through their behavior and thinking. As students examine the concepts of individual and group behavior, they gain an appreciation for clear communication skills that allow strong relationships in the business and social world. The value and science behind team building and leadership are explained through a variety of views, giving students a wide perspective on the psychological world. Through discussions and activities, students learn what makes people work and how to influence behavior. Students apply psychological methods in order to handle people, work, and their own actions in a more healthy and effective way throughout life.

Lights, Camera, Action! International Film Studios (8 weeks)

“It's about cultures; they widen the dimensions of the present, they vanquish the walls of the narrow perception. They make you look forward to experiencing a new life that is full of unusual things.” —Noha Alaa El-Din

Movies are a great resource to bolster your child's global curiosity.
