Horses, Tractors, and Rs: R-Controlled Words

“Name's Tigger. T-I-double guh-ER! That spells Tigger.”
 
The letter ‘R’ is a slippery fellow, and he’s quick to change the sound of our vowels. We have bird, word, her, and purple, but the vowels all sound so similar! Students will explore R-controlled words and CVCC words, all while completing journal writing, super spelling drills, and phonetic games. It’ll be grrrrrreat!

Ms. Anna Bonney is a student at Southern Virginia University and a teacher at the Neighborhood Creative Arts Center in piano, voice, and ukulele. She’s traveled abroad throughout her life, studying in Italy and Africa. She began to teach Spanish in a homeschool co-op, successfully teaching young students basic sentences and common words. Anna is working to publish an interactive ukulele curriculum, geared towards children of ages as young as four years old. Anna is pursuing Child Psychology and Education at Southern Virginia University.
 
Teaching style: appointments with students, journaling, peer partner learning, research projects, spelling bees
