Poetry has transformed throughout the centuries, emerging from strict rhythm and rhyme to free verse and concrete poetry. Exploring various poem types, students will examine tones and themes to decipher the poet’s intention. Students will engage in analyzing a poem of their choice, engaging in thoughtful, elaborate discussion. And suddenly, before you know it, you’ve transformed into an informed poet!

 

Materials: If by Rudyard Kipling & 101 More Classic Poems, by Classic Poets

 

  • Recommended for: Ages 11+ / Grades 6-7

Ms Eve graduated from Southern Virginia University, double majoring in English and Business Leadership, with a minor in Music. While at SVU, she worked as a teaching assistant for Philosophy and as an Economics tutor. Eve has been teaching children a variety of subjects for over 11 years. At The Thinking Kid, Eve has taught Language Arts, Literature, and Thinking Series courses to all ages. She enjoys fostering discussions and new perspectives in her classroom. Eve's favorite books include The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins, North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell, and Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen. One of her favorite aspects of teaching at TTK is working with children who are eager to learn!

 

In her free time, Eve likes to spend time outside, fishing, or reading with her daughter and her husband. Eve is passionate about music and loves volunteering with a local children's choir. Eve has a daughter named Ruth and a grey cat named Balthazar. They love to play together!
