In this class, students will have the opportunity to read, study, analyze, and write various forms of poetry. Poetry is a form of expression, allowing us to express feelings and thoughts on any subject, often transforming our view of the world, our lives, and others. When we read another’s poetry, we are encouraged to connect and find meaning in our experiences.
Studying poetry from around the world and across the ages will open your child’s eyes to a variety of perspectives of life, as well as the poetic devices and styles used to awaken the emotions of the reader. Hand-in-hand with this study is composition. Students will try their hand at composing meaningful poems which they will uniquely infuse with poetic devices. Whether being a poet is on one’s bucket list or not, writing poetry builds appreciation for the profound beauty of the poems studied in this class, all of which are landmarks in any well-versed student’s education.
