Visualizing Math with Vaquitas

Visualizing Math with Vaquitas

$48.00Price

You can't really visualize a vaquita without actually seeing a picture of it. The vaquita is a species of porpoise endemic to the northern end of the Gulf of California in Baja California, Mexico. Averaging 150 cm or 140 cm in length, it is the smallest of all living cetaceans. Let's visualize math through word problems with some vaquitas!

Through in-class activities and independent practice, students will review:

  • Visually locating intercepts and intersections of linear functions by scaling the Cartesian coordinate plane

  • Visually locating intercepts and extrema of non-linear functions by scaling the Cartesian coordinate plane

  • Factoring and expanding quadratic expressions by representing them with arrays and combining like terms

  • Factoring and expanding quadratic expressions with a leading coefficient by representing them with arrays and combining like terms

  • Expressing very large and very small numbers using both decimal and scientific notation

  • Simplifying and evaluating variable expressions involving exponents
