All the Americas: Geography Adventures (4 weeks)
There is so much to learn from just two continents! Let's jump on a jet plane and touch down in all the cool destinations you can think of in the Americas: North, South, and Central. Children always want to know more than facts about a country, and here we will discover exciting facts and find some astonishing answers to questions like these:

 

  • Where is the Christ statue from Rio?
  • What does the flat of Peru look like?
  • What is the meaning behind the US stars and stripes?
  • Which popular food comes from Mexico?
  • What is the name of the bird on the Guatemala flag?
     

We will not only cover basic map reading, mapping skills, and use of geography tools, but we will explain the foreign countries' cultures and customs to help them gain a better understanding of the world.


The Golden Rule and World Religions (4 weeks)**
The Golden Rule is shared by all the world's major religions. The purpose of this class is to create a better understanding of the history, teachings, and culture of other religions and their contributions to our world.  We will begin with the Golden Rule and other guidelines these religions share, then study some of the unique qualities of five major faiths.**

 

Museums Around the World: Art, Artifacts, and Science Revealed (4 weeks)
From the British Museum in London to the Metropolitan Museum in New York, we will visit great museums around the world and learn about the greatest art and artifacts from the past! Join us as we visit Pompeii (not quite a museum, but close enough), Giverny Gardens (Monet’s home), and the Vatican Museums, where we will walk side-by-side with some of the greatest artists, inventors, and architects that ever lived.

 

Get Creative!... the Smart Way (4 weeks)
Join us for this creative adventure! Students will train their minds to think creatively as we learn all about various creativity techniques that writers, advertisers, designers, and scientists use (or find helpful) in their endeavors. During each class, students will analyze real cases from different industries, learn tools and techniques to come up with new ideas, and apply their knowledge in their own projects inspired by different creative careers. There is no doubt that this class will be a winner for your child!

  • Know and apply creativity and problem-solving techniques such as: the method of focal objects, SCAMPER, fantastic binomial, anticipatory failure determination, and six thinking hats
  • Set goals for activities based on a specific problem and existing opportunities for solving it, formulate hypotheses, anticipate the final result, assess and test options to identify the most effective solution and to put ideas into action
  • Reflect on assumptions gained from one context to another unrelated context and identify new meaning
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of ideas, products, performances, methods and courses of action against given criteria

 

Say What?! Public Speaking (4 weeks)
Speaking to an audience isn't just about having words come out of your mouth, it's also about your message, which is made through more than just words. Discover the nuances of public speaking in this introductory course. Students will learn how to deliver an address to various audiences with proper tone and intonation. Together, students will practice intonation, dictation, gesturing, and other key elements to public speaking.

 

You're in Europe Now: Geography Adventures (4 weeks)

Time for some European Geography Jeopardy!

Question #1: This small country is the richest country in Europe (per capita).
Answer: What is Luxembourg?

 

Question #2: The famous Hans Christian Anderson is from this country.
Answer: What is Denmark?

 

Question #3: This country's flag has a cross on it.
Answer: What is Iceland, Finland, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, Greece, Georgia, the United Kingdom, or Denmark?

 

An understanding of geography develops in children an understanding of 'place,' their own place in the world, and that of other people. Studying geography provides opportunities that nurture children's vital interpersonal skills, such as empathy, collaboration, and argumentation. All places and spaces have a history behind them, shaped by humans, earth, and climate. We will reinforce the memory of their newly discovered skills and facts with exciting jeopardy games with their classmates at the end of each class.

 

How Do Heroes Think? (4 weeks)
Choosing excellent role models is essential in a child’s life. We have chosen three courageous, intelligent, and hardworking individuals who put forth heroic efforts to make the world a better place. We can learn so much from studying their lives. How did they approach their dreams? How hard were they willing to work? Did they fail? If so, did they get back up again? We will learn so much together! Join us!

 

Inventions Changing the World (4 weeks)
Get ready to examine some of the most prominent inventions in human history! Why were they invented? What problems were they invented to solve? What new problems do we have today that a new invention could help with? Discover the evolution of technology systems and the underlying laws of that evolution. Explore the contradictions they were resolving and how their future development might look like. After this class, students will:

  • Understand the laws of evolution of technology systems
  • Apply the nine-box method when analyzing any object
  • Understand and formulate contradictions
  • Pose questions to probe assumptions and investigate complex issues
  • Assess assumptions in their thinking and invite alternative opinions
  • Evaluate and justify the reasons behind choosing a particular problem (solving strategy)

    • **The Golden Rule and World Religions is on Tuesdays at 11:30 AM, not Fridays, to accommodate teacher schedules (Oct 11-Nov 1).
