DIY Science (6 weeks)

This is the first of a small series of classes where we will learn and practice the scientific method. In this class, we will learn the history of the formation of the scientific method as well as the steps of the scientific method. On the last day of class, students will develop their own questions, hypothesis, and experiment based on their observations made on coke and mentos. It will literally be a blast!

Forces and Motion (4 weeks)

It's time to use the Force! There are forces all around us; they make everything happen. In this class about forces and motion, we'll be making balloon cars to learn about kinetic and potential energy; we'll learn about the conservation of energy and friction as we make paper roller coasters; we'll learn about force, mass, and acceleration; and we'll make parachutes to learn about gravity and air resistance.

Animal Survival: Habitats and Food Chains (6 weeks)

It’s a jungle out there. . .and animals must constantly adapt to survive the climatic conditions of the ecosystem, predators, and other species that compete for the same food and space. In this class, we will learn about the most common animal habitats and the adaptations animals have that allow them to live in their habitat. Students will make a diorama of a habitat of their choice and spotlight an animal that would survive in their habitat. Finally, we will learn about food chains and how animals acquire the energy needed to survive.

Are YOU a Super Science Detective? (4 weeks)

This is the next (second) in the series of classes where we learn about the scientific method—the first being DIY Science. Now that we have learned what the scientific method is and how to correctly carry out experiments, we will now learn how to read and record data results from experiments. We will learn how to read and create tables, graphs, and charts based on experiment results to make correct conclusions.

What's the Matter? (7 weeks)

Matter is all around you! Atoms and compounds are all made of very small parts of matter. Be ready to learn about all the forms of matter: solids, liquids, gases, and plasma! We will learn what happens to atoms and molecules to change matter to form these states. Join us for a variety of cool experiments and activities to explore the characteristics of the states of matter.

Green Thumb Science (5 weeks)

In this class, we will discover the marvels of Botany! Together, we will set off on a horticulture journey and explore the different kinds of plants and what all plants have in common. There are seedless plants (like moss and hornworts), flowering plants, pines, and many more! We will learn about flowers and fruits and seeds. By the end of this class series, your little botanist will be able to dissect a plant specimen, sharing with you all the names and purposes of all the plant’s many inner parts.
