Fairy Tales: Learning Valuable Lessons (4 weeks)
Fairy tales allow students to experience life lessons vicariously, learning the value of honesty, integrity, love, and kindness. Fairy tales teach kindness above beauty, love above difference, and good above temptation. Students learn to discern valuable, desirable, and useful qualities and the differences these qualities have as they journey through the personalities and values of these fictional worlds. Join us as we read and discuss fairy tales from around the world!

Animal Encounters Through Art and Music (4 weeks)
What does a dog bark look like? What does an elephant sound like? Journeying with composers, artists, and animals, students discover how people throughout the ages perceived animals differently and how they decided to express their own ideas of animals through art and music. With a world teeming with thousands of different mindsets, personalities, and cultures, it’s easy to see how one animal or species can be interpreted in dozens of ways. How did the composers do it? How did the artists do it? Students join in an audible and visual field trip to discover the awesome ways artists and composers have told us about their animal encounters.

Heroes and Heroines from Foreign Lands (4 weeks)
This class will teach you about heroes and heroines from throughout history and around the world. Heroes and heroines come from all around the world and are respected for many different reasons. A hero or heroine can fight for peace, discover new medicines, or even open the eyes of others to things that were previously unknown. But, most importantly, whatever they do, they never give up!

It is essential to remember that heroes can come from anywhere, not just the places we know best. Because of this, we will be studying heroes from everywhere from Poland, to India, to Australia, to South Africa. Join us as we take a close look at the story of remarkable people like Indira Gandhi, Usain Bolt, Dashrath Manjhi, Wangari Maathai, Florence Nightingale, Mahatma Gandhi, Joan of Arc, Nelson Mandela, Louis Pasteur, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Steve Irwin.

Children Around the World (4 weeks)
As the world gets smaller, our children need to have basic exposure to other countries and their traditions, including what they eat, how they dress, and what manners are appropriate. With understanding, our children will be more accepting of different cultures and peoples. Join us on our globetrotting journey through Africa, Japan, China, Australia, the Pacific Islands, and Russia, as we explore the lives of children in each country, their written languages, governments, art, music, and daily lives. We have some surprise visits planned for you as well!

Poetry Adventures (4 weeks)
Poetry is so much fun! During this month, we will be reading poems, reciting poems, and writing our own poems. Poetry comes in all shapes and forms, varying from strict rhythm and rhyme to free verse, void of rhyme, and clear beat. We will learn how to read with rhythm, play with words, and communicate through this highly versatile compositional form.

This will be an experience to remember, as we explore poetry through a child’s eyes: the beauty of swinging, the consequences of bad behavior, the trials of learning, and the joy of overcoming. As we recite, we will work on improving our articulation and expression, as well as expand our memory-- important skills that will pay off in spades throughout life. My children still remember the poetry they memorized at this age. Their only regret-- they wish they had learned more!

Wonders and Blunders of Greek Gods and Goddesses (4 weeks)

Join us as we enter through the gate of clouds to explore the home of the Greek and Roman gods: the great Mount Olympus! We will hear stories from Seshat, goddess of writing and keeper of books, about King Midas, the Apple of Discord, Narcissus, and many more! We will even learn about the original Nike and Pandora, the Greek women who are the namesakes of two modern-day, multi-billion dollar companies! The gods and goddesses of Olympus do not lead perfect lives—they must face war, jealousy, and love. Their children are born with special abilities as well. Hercules, Cupid, and Persephone are just a few of the children born with special characteristics. Come learn about who Demeter was and how she oversaw the harvest, while Hephaestus furnished his fellow gods with weapons of war.

What is unique about Greek and Roman mythology, and why are the names still used today? Is it really the monsters you need to look out for, or is it the strong and beautiful gods and goddesses who might curse you? This class is your chance to find out!
