Remembering Me: Autobiographies and Journaling (4 weeks)

Learning how to express yourself is key to understanding who you are and how you develop. In this class, students dive into expressing themselves and their dreams. Through an exciting mix of journal entries, biographies, and event recording, students explore themselves. Correct grammar, sentence structure, and tenses will accompany them on their literary journey. 

 

Week 1 - Who am I, and who do I want to be? Autobiographies and basic sentence structure.
Week 2 - Where have I been, and where do I want to go? Event recording and tense practice.
Week 3 - What have I done, and what do I still want to do? Journal entries.
Week 4 - What do I want to do next, and who do I want to be now? Autobiographies and positivity practice.

 

Release the Imagination: Creative Writing (4 weeks)

The words on the page do not matter; it’s the image waiting beyond that catches our attention. Students free their imaginations, describing people and emotions vividly. Inanimate objects take on new life, and characters run across the page. Students recognize the power and freedom found in a story. 

 

Week 1 - ‘Next Line’, the elements of a story, and basic sentence structure.

Week 2 - Identifying the plot problem, forming a simple short story, and class paragraph story workshop.

Week 3 - Independent paragraph story workshop; characters and plots.

Week 4 - Full-page story workshop, story sharing, and game review.

 

Discovering Hidden Tales: Research and Biographies (4 weeks)

Too often forgotten, courageous people are scattered across our history and lives. Students discover how to make these people unforgettable by recording events, achievements, and characteristics of their leaders. Legacy lives on, and students will create theirs.

 

Week 1 - Forming a research paragraph, learning to research, and in-class paragraph workshop on parent or guardian.

Week 2 - Guided research; independent paragraph workshop on role model.

Week 3 - Guided research; revision; independent paragraph workshop on famous individual.

Week 4 - Independent research on choice topic; workshop opportunity; game review.

 

Come to the Circus: Advertising and Informative Writing (4 weeks)

In a world bustling with information, knowing how to create useful, effective information is exciting and crucial. Students plunge into basic design, eye-catching phrases, simple research, and the power of a picture. While writing about their most fulfilling activities and places, students recognize the strength of words.

 

Week 1 - Creating an eye-catching poster, balancing words and a picture, and using strong action verbs.

Week 2 - Creating an engaging flier, balancing intriguing information and pictures, and writing in full, strong sentences.

Week 3 - Creating an effective brochure, balancing and organizing information with pictures, and conducting simple research.

Week 4 - Solo creation workshop; review.
