“Art is the signature of civilizations.” -- Beverley Sills.
From the beginning of time, as soon as man had found a way to eat and protect his family, humans created art. The painting in the caves of Lascaux, France, the beautiful Michelangelo paintings in the Sistine Chapel, Chagall’s stained glass windows in Reims Cathedral – they were all created to express feelings that could not be expressed through words. Through this survey, we will look at great art, discuss what made them unique and how they make us feel. We will study their creators—what caused them to create? What challenges did these artists have to overcome and what can we learn from their lives to help us become even better than we are?
